Remember the Little Warrior AU?

Well guess what campers - we got a new LMK OC for it

She’s a newcomer to a whole lotta established lore so quite a bit of that is mixed in, but I’ll try to contextualize it easier. Character Description time (The events described go up to Season 4 of LMK) :D

Tiě hú

Alias: The Iron/Gunpowder Fox

Gender: Nonbinary She/her

Age: 2000+ (Young adult mentally/physically)

Species: Hulijing (Awakened Gunpowder Weapon)

Background: Tie Hu is no typical fox demon - she was once an ancient experimental gunpowder device crafted by humans, and through means of cultivation, eventually came to life. This might have something to do with her human makers being unknowingly being aided by hulijings, stealing her away for their own selfish purposes just as she gained awareness. Her time with the hulijings was throughly unpleasant, eventually getting discarded once she proved to be more trouble than she was worth. As technically a “thing” unable to remember the reason for her existence, Tie Hu was aimless until she encountered the leader of an isolated clan of demons, a gibbon named Bai Meimao, who took the young fox girl into her fold and showed her true compassion. Tie Hu would become a faithful servant to the Butterfly clan, utterly devoted to her lady (and to a lesser extent, Bai Meimao’s elder sibling Changbiyuan) like a loyal daughter. She would use her nature to hone herself into a deadly assassin skilled with gunpowder weaponry -- still taking it as her purpose to be solely a living weapon rather than an actual living being. But when a powerful bone demon came and destroyed her adoptive family, including Bai Meimao, Tie Hu was unable to fulfill it and was burnt out, forced into a lifeless state for over a millennia.

During this time, Changbiyuan had escaped Lady Bone Demon as a spirit, and eventually garnered enough strength and help to return to the mortal realm and avenge their family -- but was also left believing they were the only survivor of their clan. Meanwhile, Tie Hu finally woke up thanks to the sheer force of a powerful fire somewhere in the world...and unlike Changbiyuan, she’s not ready to let go yet. She wants her family back, and rumours of a scroll containing memories of the world might be her best shot.

Soooo...she's basically an ancient version of a robot. A very explosive tempered, socially withdrawn and immature robot who wields guns, is made of iron, heat and gunpowder and hates the demons she’s modelled after, but yeah. I’ve already got a lot for her already, hope you guys are intrigued:D

Okay let’s break down everything I love about this

- I love Qi Xiaotian and Long Xiaojiao just looking out from behind Zhuāng Jié like he’s already their grandpa:33333

- CHANGBIYUAN IS SO SO BEAUTIFUL SO FLUFFY AND SOFT LOOKING JUST PERFECTION AND ZHUANG LOOKS THE PERFECT MIX OF TIRED BUT SOFT AND SERIOUS AHHHHHH

- Just the expressions here are so unbelievably soft like - Chángbìyuán’s expressions and Zhuang’s gentle look back at them and then putting on that murder-glare as he watches over them sleeping I-

- The dialogue between them is just spot on this whole scene is canon now(cries)

Changbiyuan (OC) and Lady Bone Demon finally say goodbye.

I FINALLY FINISHED THIS WAHOO the first half was done months ago and I finished the second half recently, hence why there’s some difference that’s adhd brain for ya

Anyway it’s been a while since I drew Changbiyuan in ‘action’ so to speak, but context for those who haven’t been following my LMK OC AU: Changbiyuan here is a gibbon who was murdered alongside their family by Lady Bone Demon in the past after they welcomed her into their home when she was dying, not knowing her goals and what she was wiling to do to gain the power she needed to survive. Their dynamic is, for the entire AU before this point, a REALLY negative one obviously, since Changbiyuan seeks to destroy her while also being, in a way, bound to her power due to dying at her hands.

This is the point in the AU right LBD is defeated in the canon show, where Changbiyuan finds her retreating, dying soul after the final battle. They may hate her and can’t ever forgive her, but they now understand her and why she became the way she did, and has gained some emotional closure and something new to connect to (shown by the feather they take out) themselves. Thus, Changbiyuan has no real desire for vengeance anymore and ultimately decides to give the bone demon a merciful end, helping her find peace in the final moments of her long, tormented existence before ending her themselves, breaking the tether between the two of them, finally allowing them to be free. That’s why they’re smiling at the end, because they know it’s finally over, and everyone involved in this nightmare, including themselves and LBD, will finally get to move on and peace. They’re a compassionate soul, just doing what they know needs to be done, and being the only one who can show Lady Bone Demon that in the end, it didn’t have to lead to pain.

I barely draw them (I barely draw a lot of things I should draw for this AU) but they have a sweet lil relationship, and meddle in Liu Er’s and Zhuang Jie’s relationship mending. It’s a matter of justice

Another blue moon, another spooder? No - a BIG SPOODER

I mean can’t go wrong with fusions

this here is Chángzhū (Chángbìyuán/Zhīzhū)

w/ voice claim: They sound like obi wan Kenobi for the vibes

some notes

They’re like a proud seen-it-all butler/groundskeeper type, you know what I’m talking about - the one who attempts to keep a casual snarky order over their home and it’s occupants, and so help you if you try and upset that

The nerdy doctor/jock-type warrior comes together into a big, furry beleaguered babysitter with brain and brawn, and yes you are absolutely daft for getting yourself injured but they’re gonna carry you back home and take care of you anyway

Took inspiration from wolf spiders for their look/instincts

They’re super stable, functioning fully as his own person to the point it’s hard to distinguish a difference, even if they’re only sometimes around. This would lead to an extremely confusing introduction on Zhuang Jie’s end in the family AU for sure

Speaking of Zhuang Jie, they function a lot like practical colleagues with him, though the feelings both Zhizhu and Changbiyuan have for him are in there

Is most loyal to his ladyship/half-younger sister Bái Méimáo, her advisor and friend

Well now it’s for a freenoodles twist with Zhuang Jie working for Pigsy’s Noodles trying to reconnect with his adult son while having no idea what he gets up to now and Changbiyuan bein a new regular and the head of security for the city’s new mayor (thier lil sis)

This was supposed to be part of soemthing bigger but I lost momentum lol but here we have Wan Ji and her father-in-law (my oc) hehe

“So, you’re not…back to life, exactly?” Wan Ji asked, hoping that question somehow came out okay.

“Well, we are…“ Zhuang Jie answered, not sounding any less neutral than before, but he still took a sip of his tea before continuing.

“I guess the best way I can put it is that we’re still technically ghosts, just in…fully corporeal forms. Even Changbiyuan can’t fully summarize how that works, so apologies, I’m not that much better off.” He smiled to himself a bit at that, clearly taking some humor in it, which made Wan Ji relax a bit more. She was alone with the elder man in Macaque’s dojo right now — who had made himself scarce during this topic of conversation, for fairly obvious reasons.

Despite the mutual understanding (at least, there was an assumption of such), Wan Ji noted that the lack of his son’s presence did bear some weight on Zhuang Jie — and when Wan Ji looked back up at him from her own drink, she saw the concern in his eyes as he regarded her.

“Does it bother you?” He asked, his tone genuine.

“What?” Wan Ji’s tails fluffed up a bit in surprise, and she quickly raised a hand in frantic reassurance. “Oh no, no, not at all! I just wanted to make sure I didn’t say or…assume anything…insensitive…” she explained, self-consciousness starting to grip her — but Zhuang Jie’s expression softened quickly, and he chuckled. She couldn’t help but hear Macaque at that moment.

“Don’t worry about that, I appreciate it. I don’t think there’s any easy way to put it. We both were dead, and…now we’re not. But we’re not going anywhere.” He said gently, and Wan Ji saw his eyes leave hers, gaze deepening at the purple training mat in front of them. “Not again.”

Wan Ji was still a little bit in wonder about this whole thing. Macaque having a father and stepparent who came back from the dead, sure, that was incredible and complicated…she wasn’t sure what to expect at first. But now she was seeing how this man was capable of such pure paternal warmth, in words and action. Even more so that it was currently directed at her. She was pretty sure he had genuinely smiled at her more in this one conversation than her father had in years. She…wasn’t really sure how she felt about that, honestly, so she was trying not to dwell on it. Besides, that didn’t matter right now.

“I am so sorry that you went through that, Zhuang.” Wan Ji spoke empathetically, welling up a bit when thinking of this sorrowful subject she’d been learning more about piece by piece over the last few weeks. “I can’t even imagine what it must’ve been like.”

“It’s alright. And please — don’t try to.” He said, looking back at her with reassurance. “I don’t want to overwhelm you with this topic if it’s uncomfortable to hear about. But don’t worry about offending me — I’m too old for that now.” He said with a joking smirk, and Wan Ji let out a snort.

“Point is, if you have any other questions, I’m fine to answer them, kiddo.”

“…You and Changbiyuan?” She questioned. Surprisingly, Zhuang Jie nodded without hesitation.“Of course. They’d like that, actually.” He stated plainly, and Wan Ji felt taken aback.

“Really?” She couldn’t help but say aloud, and she quickly felt herself regret it, her face warming in embarrassment when Zhuang Jie raised a brow at her questioningly.

“Sorry! It’s just, Macaque told me a little about…” She paused when feeling that same sinking in her gut, that same chill running over her…the memories of that demon.

“...What happened to them.” Zhuang Jie listened patiently as she took a moment to get her words together. “I guess I figured that asking them about it directly would possibly be…triggering for them.” She finished, nervously glancing up to see Zhuang Jie’s reaction. He was nodding contemplatively, unangered.

“That’s a fair assumption to make. When it comes to certain…details, you’re not wrong.” He clarified gravely, taking a moment before smiling lightly at the younger woman.

“But here’s the thing about Changbiyuan — you don’t know them well yet, but once you do, they’re an open book. Sometimes too much of one.” He said, and Wan Ji smiled back at him. It was sweet, hearing him talk about Changbiyuan. About Macaque, too, and seeing this…trust he was placing in her, a woman he basically just met. She briefly wondered just what she was missing.

“They definitely have many horrible memories, we both do. But they cherish the good ones with all of their heart, and want them to be known. If you want to ask them about their family…I think will make them really happy. Especially in this case. You’re someone we both hope to be close to.”

The goober and the spooder

(For those who don’t know: Zhizhu was Changbiyuan’s spider doctor spouse when they were alive)

@journeytomonkiekid if I did some with Zhuang Jie I had to do some with Changbiyuan, they’re a package deal

This was gonna start out as a couple funny doodles and then the idea of Changbiyuan and Wan Ji to “Here Comes a Thought” hit me like a truck

SO In my mind this is what would happen if Wan Ji did some special meditative training with Changbiyaun, the kind that they did all the time in the ghost/spirit realm to maintain and strengthen themselves, I dunno if or when Wan Ji would need it necessarily but it’s a cool exercise regardless

(Changbiyuan means that her body won’t be ‘alive’ if her spirit has left it but it will still be preserved, she would only truly be dead if her physical body was killed. It’s really just meditation and not dangerous and I’m assuming by this point Wan Ji would have experienced weirder stuff shbwhsbwb. Plus Changbiyuan has a sorta sardonic humour about these things but when you’re half ghost, that’s how you deal hbHBshHBJ)

Step-parent jokes with Macaque aside, Changbiyaun isn’t really a parental figure like Zhuang Jie is (in any familial setting they’re more of an auncle), but they’re a compassionate and patient (if plainspoken) mentor type who is always willing to listen and offer help when they can. They’re deeply kind but they do NOT take bulllshit from anyone, and I have a feeling Wan Ji would like that about them

Anyhow I hope this vibes Wish:DD

I wanted to draw Wan Ji with my Macaque adoptive dad oc guy Zhuang Jie! I can imagine Macaque introducing Wan Ji to his long dead dad who came back to life would be quite a surprise, but I like to think they’d have a nice friendship and non-official in-law relationship ahbahabah

I think Zhuang Jie would definitely like Wan Ji a lot and would approve of her and Macaque’s relationship, especially since he’s seeing his son be happy and comfortable with her. He could tell her a lot of cute stories about what Macaque was like as a kiddo, and in the first drawing he’s giving her the address of his and Changbiyuan’s (his qpp) home
